Two Nigerian women arrested in Gambia for trafficking three month old baby

The Gambian authorities have arrested two Nigerian women suspected to have  trafficked a three month old baby from Nigerian, according to The National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP).

The child welfare unit of the police reported the case to The National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons, according to a media release.

The agency said the traffickers flew from Nigeria to the Gambia on board an Air Peace Lagos/Banjul flight P47560.

Below reads the full text of the release:

“It has come to the attention of The National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) of a recently reported case of two alleged Nigerian human traffickers from The Federal Republic of Nigeria to The Republic of The Gambia on 4th June 2018 on board an Air Peace Lagos/Banjul flight P47560.

“The two women are allegedly  involved in a potential trafficking of a three month old baby and were apprehended by the Police upon arrival at the Banjul International Airport .

The Child welfare unit of the Police reported the case to The National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons. The general public is hereby informed that NAATIP is aware of this case and have been working closely with the Police.

“NAATIP is taking appropriate measures for thorough investigations and will do its utmost to judiciously address the matter which is presently under investigations. NAATIP is working with all concerned including its counterpart in Nigeria.

“The National Agency for prohibition Against Trafficking in Persons and other related matters (NAPTIP) in Nigeria and security Agencies in The Gambia respectively to address the matter. NAATIP is also working with the cooperating Air Peace staff in The Gambia.  NAATIP will keep the General Public informed and remains strongly committed to fighting the menace of trafficking in persons in The Gambia and the world in General.”
