Devatop Inducts the Enugu Journalist Team in the War Against Human Trafficking
Devatop Centre for Africa Development has trained and inducted a team of journalists in the fight against the trafficking in persons as part of its TALKAM Against Trafficking in Persons (TATIP) project.
The induction was part of a 2-day event hosted by Devatop Centre for Africa Development for community reporters and social media influencers at the Psalms Hotel in Enugu to increase the awareness of the inducted journalists and social media influencers on human trafficking and also equip them to use their unique skills to provide adequate reportage and tracking on all matters regarding the trafficking in persons in Enugu State.
The 2-day program, which was held on the 3rd and 4th of May 2023, was titled “Countering Trafficking in Persons Training for Journalists and Induction as Journalists against Trafficking in Persons (J-TIP) in Enugu” and was an enthralling event which drew in about 23 participants including 2 persons living with disabilities.
The event was facilitated by Emmanuel Obiabo, the Programs Manager of Devatop Centre for Africa Development, with the aid of Barr. Nneka Ajie and Adekoye Vincent who were both representatives of NAPTIP.
During the course of the training sessions, the facilitators were quick to task the journalists to be inducted to always utilize their knowledge of the information media and communications field to increase the amount of awareness, tracking and reportage of cases of trafficking in persons in their respective communities.
At the conclusion of the training sessions, the participating journalists and social media influencers were inducted into the Devatop Enugu “Journalists Against the Trafficking in Persons” (J-TIP) team for the implementation of its Talkam Against the Trafficking in Persons (TATIP) project.
