DEVATOP Conducts the Second Sensitization Training for Child Domestic Workers (CDWs) and Employers in Iyana-Isashi & Ijegun Egba Communities, Lagos State, Nigeria

DEVATOP conducted the second sensitization training for Child Domestic Workers and Employers in Iyana-Isashi & Igegun-Egba. The objective was to promote positive and harmonious relationships between employers and child domestic workers by developing strategies to enhance their well-being. The sensitization program covered roles and responsibilities, trust-building techniques, effective communication, legal and ethical considerations, and emphasized the importance of support systems for a safe work environment.

These sensitization programs which are part of DEVATOP’s efforts to Protect Child Domestic Workers from Harm in Lagos State was packed with impactful sessions facilitated by Mrs Tessy Ozobialu, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Association of Social Workers and Dr Morenike Omobaije, the State Coordinator of NACTAL respectively. They led the employer’s training on promoting positive relationships with CDWs in family activities and understanding their perspectives. 

DEVATOP’s M&E Officer, Peculiar Inana in Lagos State conducted a breakout session for CDWs, aiming to educate them about child abuse and exploitation, recognizing exploitation, self-protection, and seeking help. The session also covered ways to recover from abuse.

The training proved impactful, as both employers and CDWs gained valuable insights and committed to actions that would create a more positive and productive environment, ensuring the protection and welfare of child domestic workers. The sessions concluded with facilitators addressing participants’ questions, followed by a post-test to ascertain the knowledge gained. 

Participants were also provided with action and feedback forms to outline steps they would take based on their new knowledge.
