Devatop Hosts First Website Management Training For NACTAL Members

On August 29, 2024, DEVATOP, through its TALKAM Human Rights ICT Lab initiative, organized an intensive training webinar workshop titled “Mastering Website Management and Content Publishing for NGOs” (Series 1). The event, which was attended by over 42 staff from various NACTAL member organizations, aimed to equip NGOs with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage their websites and ensure their work and impact are well-represented online.

The training began with an impactful opening address from the National President of NACTAL Nigeria, Mr Abdulganyiu Abubakar, who expressed his appreciation for DEVATOP’s initiative to empower organizations with the knowledge to effectively manage and publish content on their websites. He further urged all members to take advantage of the opportunity and committed to working with DEVATOP to develop specialized training for individuals and organizations interested in improving their website management capabilities.

Mr. Joseph Osuigwe, the Executive Director of Devatop Centre for Africa Development, facilitated one of the core training sessions and provided a comprehensive overview of Website Management and Content Publishing. In his presentation, he highlighted the crucial role that effective website management plays in amplifying the voice and reach of NGOs.

The primary training session was led by Mr. Emmanuel Augustine, the DEVATOP ICT Officer, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on “How to Publish Work on a Website (The WordPress Guide).” His session was packed with practical knowledge tailored to the needs of the participating organizations. He emphasized the importance of regularly publishing content that showcases ongoing projects and values and provided an in-depth walkthrough on accessing the WordPress admin dashboard, a crucial skill for updating and managing website content effectively. Mr Emmanuel also stressed the importance of regularly updating plugins to ensure security and functionality, highlighting that this vigilance is key to staying aligned with the latest web standards.

The interactive nature of the training allowed participants to engage in thoughtful discussions and seek clarification from the facilitators. Mr. Joseph Osuigwe’s responses to questions and recommendations, such as the importance of implementing WordPress updates and developing a consistent content publishing strategy, left attendees with a better grasp of the tools and strategies needed to improve their digital presence.

In conclusion, the training was a valuable experience, equipping participants with practical skills and insights that will undoubtedly strengthen their online presence and their commitment to leveraging technology for greater impact in their communities.
