TALKAM Against Sextortion and Online Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OSEA) Impact Report
Project Overview
The TALKAM Against Sextortion and Online Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OSEA) project, implemented by the Devatop Centre for Africa Development, was active from October 2022 to September 2023 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa State, and Plateau State, Nigeria. This project utilized technology, capacity building, and advocacy to counter online exploitation, sextortion, and human trafficking. Key accomplishments included training over 1,000 stakeholders, reaching over 1.5 million individuals through media campaigns, and enhancing public reporting via the TALKAM App.
The project catalyzed national dialogue on sextortion and online exploitation, empowering citizens, and increasing survivor reporting while fostering international collaboration between Nigerian and U.S.-based institutions. The TALKAM initiative has significantly impacted the fight against sexual exploitation in Nigeria, leveraging technology and partnerships to create a sustainable response system.
