Talkam Human Rights App Honored as a Recipient of the 2024 Intercultural Innovation Hub

Devatop Centre for Africa Development is proud to share a huge achievement that Talkam Human Rights App has been recognized as one of the 10 recipients of the 2024 Intercultural Innovation Hub! This remarkable recognition was conferred on 26th November 2024 at the 10th United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Global Forum held in Cascais, Portugal. The initiative is a collaborative effort by UNAOC and the BMW Group, with implementation support from Accenture DACH.

The TALKAM Human Rights App, which is an initiative of Devatop Centre for Africa Development, is a civic tech initiative dedicated to, raising awareness, promoting and protecting human rights, simulating reportage and empowering citizens, agencies and organisations to take action against human trafficking, gender-based violence, child abuse and other human rights abuse and can be downloaded from the website on Google Play Store or Apple Store (www.talkam.app).

The TALKAM Human Rights App, tagged “From Africa to the World”  has gained recognition as a vital platform for reporting, tracking, and addressing critical human rights violations such as human trafficking, gender-based violence, and child abuse. With its newly enhanced features, the app is designed to provide users with a secure and accessible way to report cases, access resources, and connect with other various organizations tackling human rights.

The Talkam Human Rights App’s journey to global recognition culminated in Cascais, where Devatop’s Executive Director, Mr. Joseph Chidiebere, represented the organization. During the ceremony, Mr. Chidiebere described the app as “a gift to the community, and also a gift from Africa to the world.”

The success of the Talkam Human Rights App is deeply rooted in collaboration. This milestone would not have been possible without the unwavering support of its partners, including NAPTIP Nigeria, NACTAL Nigeria, U.S. Mission Nigeria, The Freedom Fund, and Palladium, among others. These organizations have been instrumental in amplifying the app’s reach and ensuring its sustainability.

Additionally, This recognition motivates us to continue expanding TALKAM’s reach and impact, ensuring more people can stand up against injustice and access the help they need. Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey. Together, we can make human rights a reality for all.
